I know, me too! But it's easier when there are more voices out there raising the issue of the disappearing women of our time. We seem to be shrinking by the minute...
I feel this. Intuitive eating really changed my life and allowed me luxuries I never thought I would experience in life given my past with disordered eating. But the ache to be skinny never goes away.
I never thought about Sukis character in that way either. Lots to ponder here!
this definitely drove me nuts watching back in the day—and the endless (empty?) cups of coffee. 😂apparently the actresses themselves commented on how unrealistic the gilmores’ eating habits were. there is also some fat shaming throughout the show that sometimes makes me feel like we’ve come a long way but then not at all. it’s a fascinating show to rewatch.
I feel you and it’s actually so dangerous of pop culture to teach that one could eat as the Gilmore Girls do without gaining weight cause it’s simply not true for most people 😏
I've been watching and rewatching GG for as long as I can remember and I have never noticed that Sookie never eats! Even at the Thanksgiving dinner where she's hosting a fried turkey dinner she doesn't eat! Mindblown. The best food-related scene, imho, is when Lorelai ate all the Pop-Tarts because she wasn't sure if she really liked them, or if she liked the idea of freedom they brought, being one of the foods banned at the Gilmore residence during her youth. Complex relationship with food indeed!
Banger essay!!!
thank u!!!!!!
Thank you for writing this, it really hits home
thank you for commenting, it means a lot when my writing resonates - though I am sorry we all have to go through this!!

intuitively eating can be so good for so many people, but it being sold as a way to lose weight is just so counterproductive! thank you for reading !
Yes in my experience I gained weight eating intuitively. Totally agreed there.
A really good read and cut quite deep for the version of myself that will always be a 10 year old girl who wants nothing more than to be smaller.
thank you very much for reading! Sending a lot of acceptance for the 10 yo girls that are still living within us

yes! some of the fat phobic comments have me cringeeee!! but it’s good to know the actresses said something about it, because it is so evident!!
